Overview
Wuhan University's School of Nursing adheres to the development approach of 'returning to the essence of nursing education, catering to the health needs of the people, and standing at the forefront of disciplinary development.' Emphasizing the enhancement of the forefront of nursing disciplines, it practices new nursing development concepts with the aim of cultivating future clinical nursing experts and nursing science researchers who possess comprehensive development in morality, intelligence, physique, aesthetics, and labor skills, demonstrating strong competency in their positions, outstanding clinical practice skills, and robust scientific research capabilities. It stands as an important base for cultivating advanced nursing professionals in China. The nursing program is designated as a national first-class undergraduate program construction site, with currently two national first-class courses, six provincial first-class courses, and two textbooks selected for the national '14th Five-Year Plan' for education. In the 2021-2023 Times Higher Education China Subject Ratings, our nursing program maintained its position in the 'A' category, exhibiting a strong social reputation and international influence.
History and Development
The nursing discipline carries a rich history and profound cultural heritage, originating from the nurse training class established in 1931 at the Hubei Provincial Hospital. It developed into the first provincial public nursing school in Hubei Province in 1939. Pioneering the establishment of full-time nursing diploma program nationwide in 1986, it collaborated with the World Health Foundation of the United States to form the HOPE School of Nursing at Wuhan University in 2002. In 2016, it merged with the School of Public Health to establish the School of Health Sciences at Wuhan University, and in 2021, the Wuhan University School of Nursing was founded.
Faculty and Staff
The college currently has 28 full-time faculty members, including 7 professors, 1 chief nursing officer, 8 associate professors, 4 associate chief nursing officers, and 23 master's supervisors (including 9 doctoral supervisors). Among them are recipients of titles such as Hubei Province's New Century High-Level Talents, Hubei Province's Young Top Talents, Hubei Province's Medical Young Top Talents, Chu Tian Scholars, and Luo Jia Young Scholars. Seventy-seven percent of the faculty hold doctoral degrees, and 90% have overseas study or visiting experience, forming an outstanding faculty team with profound academic accomplishments, remarkable innovative capabilities, and a high level of internationalization. Additionally, renowned nursing experts and interdisciplinary specialists from both domestic and international arenas are invited as part-time professors. Collaborating with three affiliated hospitals of Wuhan University—Wuhan University People's Hospital, Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University, and Wuhan University Stomatological Hospital—there are a total of 7 professors and 71 associate professors contributing jointly to scientific research and talent development in nursing as part of the 'dual-mentor' teaching model.
